Her birth certificate says: Birth Registered in the District of Carrigaline No. 2 in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Cork in the County of Cork No. 218; born 1887 Nov 24, Dock Cottages, Passage; Catherine; female; father Richard Cotter of Dock Cottages, an engineer; mother Mary Cotter formerly Steele; informant: Hannah Steele of Church Hill, Passage, Aunt, present at birth; registered Dec 3rd 1887. Named after her paternal grandmother and a paternal aunt.

1926 - Her husband emigrated from Ireland to the USA, departing on the SS Westphalia on 10 Jul. She is recorded on the Ship's Passenger List at the US National Archives, film T-843, roll 312, v491, SS Westphalia, line 6 as: Catherine Moystn [sic] Main St, Passage West, Co Cork, her husband's nearest relative in the old country. Her daughter, Margaret Mary Claire, was born on 11 Sep at Passage West.

1928 - She and her children emigrated from Cobh, Ireland on 13 May. She is listed at the US National Archives, film T-843, vol 513, on the SS Scythia, arriving at the port of Boston on 20 May, lines 20-27 as: Mostyn, Catherine, 39, female, married, housewife, able to read and write English, a citizen of the Irish F.S., Irish race, born Passage West, Ireland, immigration visa #6832 issued at Cobh on 30 Jan 1928, last permanent residence Passage West, nearest relative in the old country father, Richard Cotter of Main St, Passage West, Co Cork, destination Boston Somerville, MA, going to join her husband, Wm. J. Mostyn of 20 Calvin St, Somerville, Boston, did not intend to return to Ireland, intend to remain in the US permanently, intend to become a citizen of the USA, never in prison, not a polygamist, not an anarchist, does not advocate the overthrow of the US Constitution, not under contract labor, good mental and physical health, 5'5" tall [sic-she was shorter!] fresh complexion, black hair, blue eyes, no identifying marks, traveling with her daughter, Mary, son, Patrick, daughter, Catherine, daughter, Eleanor, son, William, daughter, Patricia, and daughter, Clara. Suzanne Muir Allmendinger's mother, Anna O'Connor Muir, who met my grandmother on the day they arrived in the US, commented on how well-organized, well-labelled and well-packed all the cartons of their belongings were!

- Lived in South Boston. Later lived at 67 Vassal St, Quincy, MA. Her final citizenship papers were dated 28 Sep 1936, #4119924. Liked to dress in nice clothes. Liked opera and music, reading historical novels. About 5' tall, thin, walked a lot.

1936 - As part of the process of becoming a US citizen, she had a Certificate of Arrival #1-181015 issued by the US Dept of Labor on 18 Jan. It states in part: Name-Catherine Mostyn, Port of Entry-Boston, Mass, Date-May 20, 1928, Manner of Arrival-SS Scythia. On 28 Apr she filed her Petition for Naturalization, #169447, at the US District Ct, Boston, MA. It states in part: The petition of Catherine Mostyn (maiden name Cotter). . . My place of residence is 10 Ward St, S Boston, MA. My occupation is housewife. I was born in Passage West, Cork, Ireland, Nov 24, 1887. My race is Irish. Intention to become a citizen omitted pursuant to Act Sep 22, 1922 as amended. My husband is William Joseph Mostyn, naturalized US District Ct, Boston, MA, Feb 29, 1932, cert #3545575. We were married on Sep 14, 1912 at Passage West, Cork, Ireland. He was born at Riverstown, Cork, Ireland on Nov 21, 1886; entered the US at Boston, MA on Jul 19, 1926 for permanent residence, and now resides at S. Boston, MA. I have 8 children: Mary G, 7/12/1912; Patrick S, 11/13/14, Catherine I, 11/25/1916, Eleanor T, 2/16/1920, William J F, 4/12/1922, Elizabeth P, 6/29/1924, Margaret M C, 9/9/1926, all born Cork Ireland. Benjamin Anthony, [husband of her first cousin] occupation trucking business, of 655 Columbia Rd, Dorchester, MA, and Ellen Anthony, [her first cousin] housewife, of 655 Columbia Rd, Dorchester, MA, swear they have personally known Catherine Mostyn since May 20, 1928 . . . and that [she] is a person of good moral character . . . [signed] Benjamin Anthony and Ellen Anthony, at the office of the Clerk of the Court at Boston, MA, 28 Apr 1936. James S. Allen, Clerk. John F. Davis, Deputy Clerk. On 28 Sep she took her Oath of Allegiance and became a citizen of the USA. Certificate #4119924. Color white, complexion medium, eyes blue, hair brown, heigh 5'1-1/2", 119 lbs, no marks.

1987 - She died on 29 Jun. Her death certificate states: Catherine Mostyn, female, died 29 Jun 1987, at 23 Roberta Lane, Quincy, Norfolk, MA, white, age 99, born 24 Nov 1887 in Ireland, widowed, husband William J. Mostyn, homemaker at home, SSAN #013-50-0421, residing at 23 Roberta Lane, Quincy MA 02170, father Richard Cotter born Ireland, mother Mary Steele born Ireland, informant Mrs. Elizabeth Crowley, daughter, of 23 Roberta Lane, Quincy, buried 3 Jul 1987 at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA, Edward J Keohane of Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St, Quincy, died at 11:25 pm of multiple organ failure for 6 months and carcinomatosis for 18 months. Thomas E Fitzgerald of 40 Willard St, Quincy, MA, Medical Examiner, burial permit issued 7/2/87.

-Her funeral remembrance says, in part:
In Prayerful Remembrance of CATHERINE MOSTYN June 29, 1987. . . The Lord be with you CATHERINE and may you rest in Peace.

-Her gravestone on the front says "MOSTYN" and on the back says:

They came back to Ireland to stay again, about 1954 or 1955, stayed about a year. He didn't want to go, but she did. They lived with Mary O'N and Rita Cotter on Main st. But they didn't stay. At the end of the year, Willie didn't want to go back to USA, but Cattie did, so they did. He never again came back to Ireland. Cattie wanted to go back to go shopping with her daughters.

Always wore hats with lots of feather s. Once her father told her to take that bird's nest off her head. She loved the style and wore high heeled shoes.
