1846 -Baptized 8 Mar, so he was probably born shortly before that. His Baptismal Record from the Roman Catholic Parish of Killenummery names his parents and lists his godparents as Darby Clark and Catherine Morrison.

-He told this story to his granddaughter. As a young fellow, he once took the farm's cows to the fair, sold them, kept the money, and ran away from home. He never forgave himself for stealing that money, although he paid it back. This story was verified by a cousin.

1868 -He joined Royal Irish Constabulary [RIC] [police] 4 Apr. Service #34254. His service record indicates he was 18 when he joined, but he must have been older. His service record indicates he was 5'9" tall, born Co Leitrim, Catholic, married on 27 Jan 1880, wife born in Co Clare, he was recommended for the RIC by Sub Ins Browne, he was a laborer, appointed 4 Apr 1868. According to his RIC service record, on 6 Sep 1868, the RIC transferred him to Co Clare.

1870 -His RIC service record indicates he was fined on 18 Oct.

1879 -His RIC service record indicates he was fined on 4 Dec.

1880 - He married Ellen Blake on 27 Jan. His marriage certificate says: 1880 Marriage Solemnized at the Catholic Chapel of Ennistymon, Registrar's District of Ennistymon, Superintendent Registrar's District of Ennistymon, County Clare. No. 80; Married January 27th 1880 according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Catholic Church by me, Redmond Newell. This Marriage was Solemnized between us, Patrick Mostyn, Ellen Blake in the Presence of us, Owen Carney and Elisa McCarthy. Registered by me this 9th day of February 1880 T. F. Beew, Registrar.

1880 -On 15 July, the RIC transferred him to Cork, East Riding. On 28 Dec, his son, John [Jack] was born in Ennistymon, Co Clare.

1882 -He was promoted to Assistant Constable in the RIC on 1 Nov. His daughter, Margaret [Greta] was born 14 Nov at their home at 7 Tucky St, Cork. He was the informant for the birth certificate, and listed himself as a Constable of Police.

1883 -He was promoted to Constable in the RIC on 1 Jan.

1884 -His daughter, Mary Ellen [May] was born on 9 Nov in Riverstown, Co Cork, Superintendent Registrar's District of Cork, Registrar's District of Whitechurch. He was the informant for the birth certificate, and listed himself as Constabulary, Sergeant. He must have moved to Riverstown sometime between 1882 and 1884, perhaps when he was promoted in 1883.

1886 -His son, William [Willie], was born 21 Nov at Riverstown.

1887 -He received some kind of reward, mark of distinction, or favorable record in the RIC on 29 June.

1889 -His son, Henry James [Harry] was born on 22 May in Riverstown, Co Cork, Superintendent Registrar's District of Cork, Registrar's District of Whitechurch. He was the informant for the birth certificate, and listed himself as Sergeant R.I.C.

1891 -His son, Michael Charles, the first of that name, was born on 23 Sep in Riverstown, Co Cork, Superintendent Registrar's District of Cork, Registrar's District of Whitechurch. He was the informant for the birth certificate, and listed himself as Sergeant R.I.C.

1892 -His son, Michael Charles, died of bronchitis on 5 Feb at Riverstown. He was the informant for the death certificate, and was present at the death.

1893 -His son, Michael Charles, the second of that name, was born on 8 Jan on Main St, Passage, Superintendent Registrar's District of Cork, Registrar's District of Carrigaline #2. He was the informant for the birth certificate, and listed himself as Sergeant R.I.C. The family must have moved from Riverstown between Feb 1892 and Jan 1893, but he appears in the 1893 Munster Directory, p176 as:
Riverstown Constabulary district of Queenstown. In charge of Riverstown Station, Sergeant Patrick Mostyn.

1895 -His son, Bernard Patrick, was born on 28 Sep on Main St, Passage, Superintendent Registrar's District of Cork, Registrar's District of Carrigaline #2. He was the informant for the birth certificate, and listed himself as Sergeant R.I.C. Bernard died on 4 Nov of a convulsion at the Women and Children's Hospital.

1898 -His discharge certificate from the RIC states he was discharged at Cork as Sergeant16 Mar1898 at age 48; grey hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, moustache, cut mark on forehead, married. Welsh background. Lived on Grand Parade St, Cork City after he retired from RIC.

1900 -His daughter, Daisy [Josephine Gertrude] was born on 12 July at Glenbrook, Co Cork. She was baptized at St Mary's Church, Passage West, on 21 Jul. The baptism record calls the family Moysten [sic], and states she was born at Victoria Terr. Godparents: Patrick Barry and Margaret Cullinane.

1901 -He is listed in the 1901 Irish Census taken on 8 Apr 1901 on LDS film #812,392, 76|17c file 16, Co Cork, Parliamentary Division S.E. Cork, Constabulary District Queenstown, Sub-District Passage West, Poor Law Union Cork, District Electoral Division Monkstown, Townland Passage West, Street Victoria Terrace, Barony Kerricurrihy, Civil Parish Monkstown, p B-4 line 1 as Patrick Mostyn, head of family, Roman Catholic, can read and write, age 54, male, Pensioner from R.I.Constabulary, married, born Co Leitrim, living in a 7-room single family house built of stone, brick or concrete, with a roof of slate, iron or tile, and 4 windows on the front of the house [a 2d of 4 classes of houses], with his wife, Ellen, daughter, Margaret, daughter Mary E, son William J, son Henry J, son Michael C, daughter Aileen E, and daughter Josephine G Mostyn.

-The following are family remembrances of him. He used to arrest people for fishing with illegal salmon fishing nets and confiscate the nets, with small openings to catch the young salmon. He would have them arrested, but his wife would open the prison cells and free them and give them back their illegal nets. His hands shook with palsy, but he always gave his granddaughter a sixpence. They had a white dog named Pearl who barked a lot and was jealous of everyone. A granddaughter described him as "an old darling with very white hair and very blue eyes." There is a picture of him in "The Maritime Gateway to Cork," Colman O Mahony, p. 174, furthest left with Sergeant's stripes on his sleeve.

1923 -He died 8 June. According to a "diary" of his son, Willie, he died 2 p.m. His death certificate, #225, gives the following information: He died 8 June 1923 at the Cork Street Hospital; his name was Patrick Mostyn of 26 Grand Parade, Cork; male; married; 80 years old at his last birthday; an R.I.C. pensioner; he died from senile degeneration and cardiac failure after 8 days in the hospital; the informant was Helena Lynch, an inmate of Cork Union (Hospital?); his death was registered on 19 June 1923 in the District of Mo I Rural, in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Cork, in the County of Cork. The Superintendent of St Finbarr's Cemetery, Cork, Ireland wrote to me that Patrick is buried in a grave owned by Michael C Mostyn, Church Rd, Douglas East, Cork. Patrick was supposedly 75 at his death. His address then was 26 Grand Parade, Cork. 7 other family members are buried in the same plot-Ellen Mostyn, Margaret Tucker, Aileen Mostyn, Josephine Hay, Mary E Mostyn, Henry Mostyn and Helen Mostyn.

He is buried at St FinBarr's cemetery in cork City. The tombstone states:
Sacred to the Memory of The Mostyn Family
In loving memory of our beloved parents
Patrick Mostyn died 8 Jun 1923
his wife Ellen Mostyn died 24 May 1938
