He lived at Inchiquin, Co Clare, Ireland.

His father became King of Thomond in 1444 by deposing his uncle. When his father died in 1459, he and his uncle's son, Donnchadh, were co-kings until he deposed Donnchadh about 1461. Thereafter he was sole king until he died.
