Maelroona-na-Fearoise (Melronious Barbatus), son of Teige and Mairgret's brother, founded the Franciscan Friary of Roscrea. His daughter Catherine married Sir E Butler (died 1464) the Earl of Ormond. His son John died in 1489 according to the annals of the Four Masters.
Mulruany of the Beard was ancestor of the Birrae, from whom the town of Birr takes its name.
2821432, Annals of the Four Masters:-
A great contest arose between O'Carroll, Lord of Ely, and the Earl of Ormond (Butler); and the Earl having marched with a great force into Ely, spoiled the country, and demolished O'Carroll's two castles.
282O'Heerin, a 15th century bard described the race of Carroll in 1420 as:
" Lords to whom great men submit are the O'Carrolls of the Plains of Birr, Princes of Eile, as far as tall Slieve Bloom, the most hospitable land in Erin, eight districts and eight chiefs are ruled by the Prince of Ely of the land of herds, valiant in enforcing the tributes are the troops of the yellow ringletted hair."
