THEOBOLD, 4th Butler, m. Joan (d. 1303), 4th dau. of John Fitz-Geoffry, Lord of Kirtling and Baron of Berkhampstead, Lord Justice of Scotland, and yst. son of the famous Geoffry Fitz-Piers, Earl of Essex, Lord Justiciary of England, and d. 26 Sept. 1285
The fourth Butler married Joan, youngest daughter of John FitzGeoffrey, Earl of Essex. Her brothers, John and Richard, dying without issue, she inherited portion of their estates in Essex, Hampshire, Surrey, and Buckinghamshire, which remained for several generations in the Ormond family. She left eight sons: Theobald, Edmund, Thomas, from whom are descended the Barons of Dunboyne, created in 1541, and John, Richard, Gilbert, Nicholas, and James le Botelier.
