Web Notes notes for Rohese DE LUCY
In 6 Rich. I (1194/5) Roese de Douvres accounted for having the lands of Richard de Lucy, her grandfather, which her brother Richard had afterwards had in England and Normandy and for license to marry as she choose.279

She was eventual co-heiress of her grandfather, Richard de Lucy, "the Loyal", the Norman born Justiciar of Henry II (Essex Arch. Soc. Trans. n.s., vol. XX, p. 129 sq). She married secondly, without the King's license, Nicholas fitzAlan (ibid.; Rotr. chart. 14 John, p. 189; Cl. R., 14 John, vol. I, p. 127), for which her heritage was taken into the King's hand and given into the custody of William Briwere in 1204 (Fine R., p. 229). In 1205 she fined with the King to recover the same (Pipe R., 7 John, Mich. 1205, p. 195; Rot. Fin., 6 John, p. 261; cf. Dugdales's Baronage, vol. I, p. 462). Roese made a gift to Walden Abbey for the souls of her husband John de Douvres and others (Walden Cart., Harl. Mss. 3697, fo. 264; Essex Arch. Soc. Trans. n.s., vol. XX, p. 276). She was living as late about 1225, when her charter to Cumberwell Abbey, made in her widowhood, cites her previous charter granting a rent in Midhurst to Alured de Denes (Arch. Cant., vol. VIII, p. 289 sq.).279
