Web Notes notes for Adalbert II 'the Rich' Marquis Of Tuscany
Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (31:38). Adalbert succeeded his father as Marquis of Tuscany, ruling from 886 to 915. This was a time of civil wars in the north of Italy. At a time when the power structures of Italy were crumbling, Adalbert was able to consolidate his power in Tuscany. Like his father, he ruled almost as a sovereign. He was the only noble of any stature to remain aloof from the civil wars (with the sole exception of an unsuccessful revolt against King Lambert in 898) and to show no interest in trying to claim the throne of Italy for himself.
