Web Notes notes for Alain III Duke Of Brittany
Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (39:23), (119:24). From Cokayne's "Complete Peerage", in the article on Richmond: During his mother's lifetime Alain seems to have ruled Brittany jointly with his brother, EUDES. On her death, dissension broke out. Peace was restored and a settlement made. EUDES received a territory corresponding roughly to the dioceses of Dol, St. Malo, St. Brieuc and Treguier, reduced in the hands of his successors to the last two named dioceses. Alain retained the rest of Brittany. Per Galliou and Jones' "The Bretons", there were disputes along the frontier with Normandy - the Cousnon River - during the reign of the Norman Duke Robert I, Alain's cousin.
