Web Notes notes for Roland LE STRANGE
Progenitor of the LeStrange families in England. Rhiwallon or Roald was born probably near Hunstanton in Norfolk County and died near the same place. He was a witness for a charter which granted some English land to certain monks in the Abbey of St. Florent in 1122. He was a witness to a deed of land of Alan FitzFlaald in 1112. Alan made some of his lands around Mileham, in Norfolk, over to Roland. Roland was also a tenant of Alan and possibly worked for him when he was young. Roland married about 1110 to Matilda le Brun. From his marriage, the Le Strange family in England acquired many large land holdings in and around places such as Ness, Cheswardine, and Hunstanton, in Norfolk County, England. Other information indicates that William the Conqueror gave Hunstanton Hall to Roland LeStrange, but Roland would have been only about 2 years old at the time, so this is unlikely.231

Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Lestrange) Roland Lestrange witnessed before 1122 a charter. m. Maud da. of Herliwin or Hunstanton by Helewise, dau. Hugh de Plaiz
