From Anglo Saxon England, by Sir Frank Stenton, ISBN 0-19-282237-3, page 12:
To the contemporary observer in the 5th century, it must have seemed that if the Saxons were ever to obtain a permanent settlement, it would be in Gaul rather than Britain. Even after the middle of the century, when the imperial Roman defense of Britain had long come to an end, the Saxons still attempted to settle themselves to the south of the Channel, and indeed came near to the occupation of at least the northern third of Gaul. In 463, under their king Eadwacer they took possession of Angers, to be dislodged by Childerich, king of the Franks, acting as an ally of the empire.
His grave was discovered at Tournai in 1653.
