Web Notes notes for Lambert Count Of Nantes
Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (265:42), he was Count of Nantes, 818-834;
Maurice Chaume, in Table 4 of v.4 of "Les origines du duche de Bourgogne" (Dijon, 1925-31), refers to him as Lamber II, count of Nantes He is mentioned in the following passage taken from the book, "The Bretons", by Galliou and Jones: "In the end LOUIS THE PIOUS, struggling to maintain control in the empire at large, tried the alternative of political rapprochement. Following the revolt by Guihomarc'h [in Brittany] in 824, THE EMPEROR sent the captured Breton leader home from Aachen loaded with presents. As the Carolingians were dazzled by the sophistication and wealth of Byzantium, their own court similarly impressed peoples like the Bretons who did not yet enjoy the same levels of material culture. They were eager to share its benefits: weapons of Frankish design, for instance, have been found in a seventh-century burial on the Ile Lavret. The economic and social advantages of cooperation in place of conflict were apparent to both sides. Bretons began to enter imperial service as vassals. Guihomarc'h did not long survive
his release; he was killed by Count Lambert of Nantes in 826."
