Web Notes notes for William BRIWERE Lord Of Horsley
Famous official of king Richard I and John - had five daughters.

She married secondly, without the King's license, Nicholas fitzAlan (ibid.; Rotr. chart. 14 John, p. 189; Cl. R., 14 John, vol. I, p. 127), for which her heritage was taken into the King's hand and given into the custody of William Briwere in 1204 (Fine R., p. 229). In 1205 she fined with the King to recover the same (Pipe R., 7 John, Mich. 1205, p. 195; Rot. Fin., 6 John, p. 261; cf. Dugdales's Baronage, vol. I, p. 462).279

In 6 John (1204) William Briwere gave £400 for the custody of the lands and heir, together with her marriage, of Fulbert de Douvres, and for the custody of the dower of Roese de Douvres, the widow of John (Fine R., Rec. Com., p. 229). Fulbert de Douvres witnessed the foundation charter of William Briwere to Tor Abbey, 1189-1199 (Mon. Ang., 1st ed., vol. II, p. 653). Fulbert died, a young man, in or about 1204, and the custody and marriage of his heir was granted to William Briwere, the famous official of king Richard I and John. Isabel is one of the five daughters of William Briwere, who is known to have married Baldwin Wake, and Fulbert was her first husband.279

This William had a nephew, also called William, the Bishop of Exeter (1224-1244).
On 21 Jul 1213 the King gave the custody of the heir of Baldwin Wake and the marriage of Isabel, his widow, to William Briwere (Rot. Lit. Claus., vol. I, p. 146). On 17 Dec, 18 Henry III (1223), the King made a fine with William Briwere, Bishop of Exeter (11224-1244), who appears to have been a nephew of the elder William, for the custody of the lands and marriage of the heir of William de Avranches, until he should come of age and to marry him to one of the daughters of Richard de Chilham and Roese de Douvres his wife, kinswoman of the said Bishop (Excerpt. e Rot. Fin., vol. I, p. 252).279

From this is may be suggested that William Briwere married his daughter, Isabel, about 1200, to Fulbert de Douvres, by whom she had issue a daughter Roese. After the death of Fulbert, she was married to Baldwin Wake, who died before 21 July 1213, when her marriage was granted to her father William Briwere. Her heir was her son Hugh Wake, ancestor of the ancient Northamptonshire family of that name (V.C.H. "Northamptonshire Families Wake", compiled by Oswald Barron, Table, pp. 337-339; Dugdale's Baronage, vol. I, pp. 539/40).279
