He as certainly a man of note. He and his brother, Nuno had been early and firm supporters of Fernando I. Rodrigo attended his coronation in León in 1038 and frequently witnessed his charters. Nuno held the important fortress of Amaya, north of Burgos, on the king's behalf and Rodrigo the castle of Luna, north of Miranda de Ebro. Rodrigo also administered the regions depending on Mormojón, Moradillo, Cellorigo and Curiel, the last three being sensitive areas contiguous to Castile's eastern and southern marches. They were well-connected and loyal to the ruling dynasty.157
