Domhnall fought furiously against the Anglo-Norman invaders after his father was treacherously slain at a parley in 1185. He inflicted several defeats on them, and it would appear that during his lifetime the Anglo-Normans were able to make little headway west of Cork City; it was only after his death, which occurred in 1206, that they began to colonize the lands to the west.225
