Eochaidh Muighmeadhoin. This Eochaidh had five sons namely Brian, Fiachra, Fearghus and Oilill, the four son of Mongfhionn daughter of Fiodhach. This Mongfhionn was sister to Criomthann, son of Fiodhach, king of Ireland. The fifth son of Eochaidh was Niall; Cairionn Chasdubh daughter of the king of Breatain was his mother, and although Niall was the youngest of the five sons we have placed him first in the genealogy, since he was the most renowned of them and as it was from his descendants the greater number of the kings of Ireland were drawn. Of the four above-named there are two without issue, namely Fearghus and Oilill.
Pronounced Eochy Moy Vane, means Eochy the slaves lord. Inaugurated on the Stone of Destiny at Tara. This stone later taken by his descendants to Scotland, where it was the inauguration stone of the Kings of Scots. Got his nickname from slave raids he made on Roman Britain, in one of which he carried off and married his second wife, Carinna, by whom he had Niall of the Nine Hostages.9
Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (170:3). The Four Masters reckon him as the 124th monarch of Ireland and say he died 365 . This generation is the farthest back that most modern scholars consider historical, rather than merely legendary or mythical, and many are unwilling to accept even this much. The generations beyond this point are all doubtful.
