Web Notes notes for Roger DE LACY Lord Of Pontefract
Weis" "Ancestral Roots. . ." (54:29). He took the de Lacy name by virtue of his inheritance of the lordship of Ponterfract. Was also constable of Chester.
W E Wightman, *The Lacy Family in England and Normandy, 1066-1194*, genealogical chart following p 260.
(pp. 85-86): "Roger 'Helle', constable of Chester, . . . took the name Lacy when he was allowed to inherit the lands. He had to pay a relief of three thousand marks, three times the amount that Robert [de Lacy] had paid sixteen years before. Thus the honours of Halton and Widnes became joined to those of Pontefract and Clitheroe built up by the first Lacy line, the whole forming the basis of the power of the earls of Lincoln in the next century."
