Web Notes notes for Bernard DE NEUFMARCHE Lord Of Brecon
Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (177:3). Cokayne's "Complete Peerage", (Abergavenny, p.20). Orderic Vitalis mentions Bernard's Welsh conquests. There is an anecdote/tale of Brecknock local history that holds that Bernard died in 1125, after his wife claimed falsely to KING HENRY I that her son Mahel was not Bernard's (as revenge for Mahel assaulting and maiming her adulterous lover in his sire's absence) effectively disinheriting him. By this story, HENRY subsequently arranged SIBYL's marriage to MILO FITZWALTER in 1121, and on Bernard's death in 1125 MILO FITZWALTER
Became lord of Brecon/Brecknock.
