Web Notes notes for Emma Of Normandy Queen Of England
She was twice Queen of England, 1st by her marriage to King Ethelred the Unready, and then by her marriage to King Canute.

From "Debrett's Kings and Queens of Britain" by David Williamson, ISBN 0-86350-101-X, p. 28:
After the death of his 1st wife, King Ethelred 'the Unready' married again, in the spring of 1002, this time choosing a bride from the Continent. She was Emma, the eldest daughter of Richard I, Duke of Normandy, and the marriage was to have very far-reaching repercussions. The new Queen assumed the popular English name of Elfgiva and gave Ethelred 2 more sons and a daughter. After his death, she married King Canute.

Her 2d husband was Canute, King of England, who died 1035

From "Debrett's Kings and Queens of Britain" by David Williamson, ISBN 0-86350-101-X, p. 30:
Soon after his accession, Canute repudiated his mistress although she was a very able woman and later governed Norway with her son Sweyn. On 2 Jul 1017 he married King Ethelred's widow, Emma of Normandy, whom he "commanded . . . to be brought to him so that she might become his Queen." Emma was a willing bride. Her new husband was 10 years her junior. They had a son, Hardicanute, later king, and a daughter, Gunhild, who, renamed Kunigunde, became the 1st wife of Emperor Henry III, and died in Italy on 18 Jul 1038. Canute was no more than 30 when he died at Shaftesbury on 12 Nov 1035. He was taken to Winchester for burial. The painted wooden chests which contain the mingled bones of the Saxon and Danish kings buried at Winchester may be seen on top of the choir screen in Winchester Cathedral.
Emma lived on through many vicissitudes to see two of her sons reign, but fell out of favor with her son Edward 'the Confessor', who confiscated her lands and goods 'because she had been too tight-fisted with him.' She died on 6 Mar 1052, aged about 66 or 67, and was buried at Winchester.

After the death of her 2d husband, Canute, her step-son, Harold I 'Harefoot' ruled England from 1035-1040. He banished her, and she went to Bruges, where she was well received and given shelter by Count Baldwin V of Flanders, her niece's stepson. After his reign, her son Hardicanute, by her 2d husband, ruled England. After that, her son Edward the Confessor, by her 1st husband, ruled England.
