Web Notes notes for Ealdbald King Of Kent
From "Debrett's Kings and Queens of Britain" by David Williamson, ISBN 0-86350-101-X, p. 15-16:
After his father's death, he lapsed into paganism and took his stepmother to wife. He was eventually brought to repentance by St Augustine's successor, Laurence, and he put away his stepmother, restored Christianity and, like his father before him, married a Frankish princess. Thereafter he led an exemplary life and the kings of Kent became renowned for their piety and the number of saintly abbesses to be found among their royal princesses.
