He and his father were captured, taken prisoner and condemned to death as traitors for taking the field in the cause of the imprisoned earl of Desmond. The son was executed. The father barely escaped the same fate by a legal technicality. The execution took place in 1567 at Limerick docks before Sir Thomas Cusack, and the condemned man was hanged from the yard of a ship with two Franciscan friars, and later drawn and quartered.22
